Abstract Phenolic compounds are frequently found in the specific tissues in the leaves and stems of Baccharis species. However, only a few species of the genus have been studied in recent years, including B. erioclada. This study evaluates the in vitro antioxidant potential of B. erioclada crude extract and its fractions. Phytochemical studies, including quantification of total phenolics and flavonoids have also been carried out. Crude extract presented higher antioxidant capacity since it showed lower values of IC50 or greater reductive capacity compared to the fractions. The total phenolic compounds and flavonoids in the crude extract were quantified as 160.66 mg/g and 47.98 mg/g, respectively. Hispidulin showed 27,2296 g/100 g of dried extract. The present study evidenced that B. erioclada extracts are promising sources of antioxidant compounds.

Abstract This work has as main objective to analyze axiological dimensions emerging in the development of the text review activity during the work of a reviewer in the thesis of her client, based on the analysis of discourses exchanged via e-mail between the subjects that were investigated. ABSTRACT Objective: evaluate the knowledge of elementary school teachers on urgency/emergency care in the school environment. Method: this is a quantitative, cross-sectional, analytical study. The study participants were 269 elementary school teachers - Cycle I, from 19 schools under the management of the Municipality of Marilia - SP. Data collection occurred in September 2021 and the instrument used was a questionnaire prepared in the digital platform Google Forms, divided into three sections: the first containing the informed consent and socioeconomic questions, followed by objective questions about previous experiences of the participants and simulated cases of emergency in the school environment. The data collected was analyzed using the SPSS software (version 24.0), using the chi-square test for association of the proportion distribution with a significance level of 5%. Results: among the participants, 53.2% had already witnessed some emergency situation inside the school, in which 11.9% had acted safely. Less than half (42.7%) of the teachers had content about the subject during their graduation, and 68.8% reported never having received training on school accident prevention and first aid. Conclusion: based on the results, we identified that there is a need for teacher training regarding urgency and emergency situations related to the care of children in the school environment, thus trying to provide subsidies for coping with serious situations that may occur at school.

RESUMEN Objetivo: evaluar los conocimientos de los profesores de enseñanza primaria sobre la atención de urgencia/emergencia en un entorno escolar. Método: se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, transversal y analítico. Participaron en este estudio 269 profesores de escuelas primarias - Ciclo I, de las 19 escuelas que están bajo la gestión del Municipio de Marilia, SP. La recolección de datos ocurrió en septiembre de 2021 y el instrumento utilizado fue un cuestionario elaborado en la plataforma digital Google Forms, dividido en tres secciones: la primera conteniendo el consentimiento informado y preguntas socioeconómicas, seguida de preguntas objetivas sobre experiencias previas de los participantes y casos simulados de emergencia en el ambiente escolar. Los datos recogidos fueron analizados en el software SPSS (versión 24.0), realizándose la prueba de Chi-cuadrado para asociación de la distribución de proporciones con el nivel de significación adoptado del 5%. Resultados: entre los participantes, el 53,2% ya había presenciado alguna situación de emergencia dentro de la escuela, en la que el 11,9% había actuado con seguridad. Menos de la mitad (42,7%) de los profesores tuvieron contenidos sobre el tema durante la graduación, y el 68,8% declararon no haber recibido nunca formación sobre prevención de accidentes escolares y primeros auxilios. Conclusión: con base en los resultados, identificamos que existe la necesidad de capacitación de los profesores en relación a situaciones de emergencia y urgencia para el cuidado de los niños en el ambiente escolar, en el intento de proporcionar subsidios para el abordaje de situaciones graves que puedan ocurrir en la escuela.

RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar o conhecimento dos professores do ciclo fundamental I no atendimento de urgência/emergência em ambiente escolar. Método: trata-se de um estudo de abordagem quantitativa, de caráter transversal, analítico. Participaram deste estudo 269 professores do ensino fundamental - Ciclo I, das 19 escolas que estão sob gestão do Município de Marília, SP. A coleta de dados ocorreu em setembro de 2021 e o instrumento utilizado foi um questionário elaborado na plataforma digital Google Forms, divido em três seções: a primeira contendo o termo de consentimento livre e esclarecido e questões de cunho socioeconômico, seguida de questões objetivas sobre vivências prévias dos participantes e casos simulados de urgência em ambiente escolar. Os dados coletados foram analisados no software SPSS (versão 24.0), sendo realizado o teste do Qui-quadrado para associação da distribuição da proporção com o nível de significância adotado de 5%. Resultados: entre os participantes, 53,2% já presenciaram alguma situação de urgência dentro da escola, em que 11,9% atuaram com segurança. Menos da metade (42,7%) dos professores tiveram conteúdo acerca do tema durante a graduação, e 68,8% relatam nunca terem recebido treinamentos sobre prevenção de acidentes escolares e primeiros socorros. Conclusão: mediante os resultados, identificamos que há necessidade de treinamentos para os professores no que se refere às situações de urgência emergência voltadas ao atendimento de crianças no ambiente escolar, procurando, desta forma, dar subsídios para o enfrentamento em situações consideradas graves que podem ocorrer na escola.

Abstract In this research, we hypothesized that Ormosia arborea (Vell.) Harms seedlings should grow better and achieve greater levels of gas exchange when grown in soils with higher water availability. Thus, this study was developed to assess the metabolic responses of the seedlings to different levels water availability. Irrigation was performed on alternate days, at water holding capacities (WHC) of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The metabolic responses were analyzed at 15, 50, 85, and 120 days after starting treatments. The O. arborea plants grown in conditions of higher water availability (75% and 100% WHC) had higher leaf water potential and chlorophyll content, in addition to higher values for chlorophyll a fluorescence and gas exchange, than those grown in other conditions. Water deficit caused by low levels of water availability (25% or 50% WHC) reduces leaf water potential, chlorophyll a fluorescence, and gas exchange. As a strategy to tolerate stress, seedlings tend to invest in their antioxidant system, as shown by the high levels of activity of the enzymes Superoxide dismutase (SOD), Peroxidase (POD), and Catalase (CAT). Although the seedlings may be tolerant to cultivation under 50% WHC, the best functioning of the photosynthetic apparatus occurred under WHC of 75%.

Resumo Nesta pesquisa, hipotetizamos que as mudas de Ormosia arborea (Vell.) Harms crescem melhor e alcançam maiores níveis de troca gasosas quando cultivadas em solos com maior disponibilidade de água. Assim, este estudo foi desenvolvido para avaliar as respostas metabólicas das mudas a diferentes níveis de disponibilidade hídrica. A irrigação foi realizada em dias alternados, nas capacidades de retenção de água (CRA) de 25%, 50%, 75% e 100%. As respostas metabólicas foram analisadas aos 15, 50, 85 e 120 dias após o início dos tratamentos. As plantas de O. arborea cultivadas em condições de maior disponibilidade hídrica (75% e 100% CRA) apresentaram maior potencial hídrico foliar e teor de clorofila, além de maiores valores para a fluorescência da clorofila a e trocas gasosas do que aquelas cultivadas em outras condições. O déficit hídrico causado por baixos níveis de disponibilidade hídrica (25% ou 50% CRA) reduz o potencial hídrico foliar, a fluorescência da clorofila a e as trocas gasosas. Como estratégia para tolerar o estresse, as mudas tendem a investir em seu sistema antioxidante, como demonstrado pelos altos níveis de atividade das enzimas Superóxido dismutase (SOD), Peroxidase (POD) e Catalase (CAT). Embora as mudas possam ser tolerantes ao cultivo com menos de 50%, o melhor funcionamento do aparato fotossintético ocorreu sob 75% de CRA.

Abstract The Brazilian native species Cestrum intermedium, known as mata-boi, induces hepatotoxicity and death when ingested by cattle. While most studies on this species focus on toxicological features, our study is the first to describe the anatomy and in vitro biological activities of Cestrum intermedium. We investigated adult leaves and stems by histochemistry, described their anatomy, performed physical-chemical analysis, determined in vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial activities, and identified secondary metabolites. A few noteworthy anatomical features were the anomocytic stomata on the abaxial surface and the absence of trichomes, in addition to the circular shaped petiole with two projections on the adaxial surface. Histochemical analysis showed chemical markers such as alkaloids, usually reported as toxic, and terpenoids. Potassium nitrate (ATR-FTIR) and lupeol palmitate (NMR) were detected on the crude stem extract. Thermogravimetric and physical-chemical analysis provided fingerprint parameters for the species. Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) assay revealed that Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Candida albicans were weakly inhibited by extract samples. Chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions presented high phenolic content, which resulted in in vitro antioxidant activity. These novel features expand the knowledge about this species, considering that previous studies mainly focused on its toxicity. Our study also provided characteristics that may help in avoiding misidentification between Cestrum members, especially when taxonomic keys cannot be employed, as in the absence of flowers and fruits.

RESUMO Este trabalho ancora-se no estudo dos conceitos de relações dialógicas e de discurso bivocal para analisar interações discursivas estabelecidas entre uma revisora e uma doutoranda durante diferentes etapas de realização da atividade de revisão textual em uma tese acadêmica. O material da pesquisa é constituído por discursos advindos: i) de e-mails entre a revisora e a doutoranda, nos quais elas discutem o conceito da atividade de trabalho contratada; e ii) por um excerto do texto em processo de revisão, junto à inserção de comentários de ambas na escrita. Os discursos investigados possibilitam-nos contemplar as tensas relações dialógicas envoltas no fazer de um revisor de textos, trazer pistas dos diferentes estágios de desenvolvimento da tessitura textual, assim como nos permitem discutir o discurso bivocal constitutivo do trabalho com revisão textual, a partir das palavras da revisora ressoadas no texto da doutoranda, que compõem o texto acadêmico revisado em sua versão final.

ABSTRACT This paper is based on the study of the concepts of dialogic relationships and double-voiced discourse to analyze discursive interactions between a proofreader and a doctoral student during different stages of proofreading an academic thesis. The research material are discourses from: i) e-mails exchanges between the proofreader and the doctoral student regarding their understanding of the work the proofreader performs and ii) an excerpt of the thesis during the proofreading process with the proofreader’s and the doctoral student’s comments in the text. The analysis of these discourses allows us to see the tense dialogic relationships that constitute the proofreader’s work, to observe the clues on the various stages of the writing process, as well as to discuss the double-voiced discourse that constitutes the work with proofreading based on the proofreader’s words resounded in the doctoral student's final version of the revised text.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o potencial antibacteriano do novo cimento biocerâmico (Bio-C Sealer, Angelus) contra bactérias comuns em infecções endodônticas primárias e secundárias. Culturas de Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus e Streptococcus mutans foram expostos a amostras frescas do Bio-C sealer durante 24 h pelo método de difusão em agar (n=5). A atividade antibacteriana de amostras dos cimentos Bio-C Sealer (Angelus), EndoFill (Dentsply-Mallefer), Sealer 26 (Dentsply), AH Plus (Dentsply), Sealapex (Sybron-Endo) e EndoSequence BC Sealer (Brasseler) após a presa também foi investigada em biofilmes de 48 h das bactérias E. faecalis e S. mutans, crescidos em discos com 4 mm de diâmetro e 2 mm de altura. A atividade antibacteriana foi avaliada por contagem das unidades formadoras de colônias (UFC) utilizando o software ImageJ. Os dados foram comparados por ANOVA a um critério seguido pelo pós-teste Holm-Sidak (a=5%). Amostras frescas do Bio-C Sealer exibiram atividade antimicrobiana contra todas as bactérias avaliadas pelo método de difusão em ágar, exceto para S. mutans. A análise da formação de biofilme mostrou que todos os cimentos endodônticos testados apresentaram valores similares de UFC para E. faecalis (p> 0,05), enquanto biofilmes de S. mutans foram mais suscetíveis ao EndoFill em comparação com os demais cimentos (p<0,05). Conclui-se que o cimento Bio-C Sealer fresco exibe atividade antibacteriana para E. faecalis, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa e E. coli, mas não inibe o crescimento de S. mutans. Após a presa, o cimento Bio-C Sealer exibe potencial antimicrobiano similar ao dos demais cimentos avaliados em biofilme de E. faecalis, mas inferior ao do EndoFill para S. mutans.

Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the antibacterial potential of a calcium silicate-based sealer (Bio-C Sealer, Angelus) against common bacteria in primary and secondary endodontic infections. Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mutans were exposed to fresh Bio-C Sealer for 24 h by the agar diffusion method (n=5). Additionally, the antibacterial activity was investigated against E. faecalis and S. mutans biofilms (48 h old) grown in discs with 4 mm in diameter and 2 mm in height. (n=3) of set discs of Bio-C Sealer (Angelus), EndoFill (Dentsply-Mallefer), Sealer 26 (Dentsply), AH Plus (Dentsply), Sealapex (Sybron-Endo) and EndoSequence BC Sealer (Brasseler). The antibacterial activity was evaluated by colony forming unity (CFU) counting using ImageJ software. Data were compared by one-way ANOVA followed by Holm-Sidak test (a=5%). Fresh Bio-C Sealer exhibited antimicrobial activity against all bacteria evaluated by agar diffusion method, except for S. mutans. Set discs of all endodontic sealers tested showed similar CFU values for E. faecalis (p>0.05). S. mutans in biofilms showed higher susceptibility to EndoFill compared with the other sealers (p<0.05). In conclusion, the results indicate that fresh Bio-C Sealer does not inhibit S. mutans growth, but exhibits antibacterial activity against E. faecalis, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and E. coli. After setting, the Bio-C Sealer exhibits an antimicrobial potential comparable to that of the other sealers evaluated in E. faecalis biofilm, but lower than that of EndoFill for S. mutans biofilm.

RESUMO O propósito deste estudo foi identificar a relação entre capacidade funcional do ombro e nível de atividade física em mulheres que trataram o câncer de mama. Participaram 84 mulheres assistidas pelo Sistema Único de Saúde em Aracaju/SE com no mínimo um ano após mastectomia e terapias adjuvantes. O nível de atividade física foi mensurado pelo International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ); capacidade funcional do ombro pelo questionário Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI); qualidade de vida pelo European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Câncer Quality of Life Questionnarie (EORTCQLQ-C30) e o EORTC QLQ- BR23. Para medir a amplitude de movimento foi utilizado um flexímetro e para avaliar força muscular um dinamômetro escapular. Pela regressão logística múltipla identificou-se que uma unidade acrescida do SPADI total aumenta em 7% (p = 0,0000005) a chance de ser pouco ativo e uma unidade acrescida do SPADI dor em 4% (p = 0,0002341). Os prejuízos da capacidade funcional do ombro, a presença de dor e a fraqueza muscular, podem colaborar para barreiras na realização de atividade física, tornando estas mulheres inativas. Tais achados são úteis para desenvolver estratégias para estimular esse perfil de mulheres, permitindo melhorar os níveis de atividade física e qualidade de vida.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to identify the relationship between shoulder functional capacity and physical activity in women treated for breast cancer. The participants were 84 women assisted by the Sistema Único de Saúde in Aracaju/SE with at least one year after mastectomy and adjuvant therapies. The level of physical activity was measured by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ); the functional capacity of the shoulder by the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) questionnaire; quality of life by the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTCQLQ-C30) and the EORTC QLQ-BR23. A scapular dynamometer was used to measure the range of motion and to evaluate muscle strength. By multiple logistic regression, it was identified that a unit plus the total SPADI increases by 7% (p = 0,0000005) the chance of being little active and an increased unit of SPADI pain by 4% (p = 0,0002341). The impairment of the functional capacity of the shoulder, the presence of pain, and muscle weakness can contribute to barriers in the performance of physical activity, making these women inactive. Such findings are useful to develop strategies to stimulate this profile of women, allowing to improve the levels of physical activity and quality of life.

RESUMO Objetivo: verificar a correlação entre as provas de vocabulário receptivo, consciência sintática e escrita ortográfica de palavras isoladas. Métodos: participaram 42 escolares do 3° ano do ensino fundamental I, pertencentes a rede de financiamento público de ensino, de ambos os gêneros, na faixa etária de 8 a 9 anos. Para a obtenção dos dados foi aplicado o Teste de Vocabulário Receptivo, Prova de Consciência Sintática, Avaliação da Escrita sob ditado de Palavras e Ditado soletrado. Para a distribuição de normalidade foi utilizado o teste de Kolmogorv-Smirnov, na relação entre as variáveis o teste de correlação de Sperman e de valor de R2 (p-valor ≤0,05). Resultados: houve diferença estatisticamente significante, com presença de correlação positiva classificada como moderada entre vocabulário receptivo, consciência sintática e ditado de palavras (valores próximos a 0,40 a 0,50). Classificação de moderada a alta entre julgamento gramatical, ditado de palavras e ditado soletrado (valores próximos a 0,50 a 0,75). Classificada como baixa a moderada entre ditado de palavras e correção gramatical, correção gramatical e agramatical, e categorização de palavras (valores próximos a 0,25 a 0,50). E moderada alta entre ditado de palavras e ditado soletrado (valores próximos a 0,50 a 0,75). Conclusão: a presença de correlação positiva foi identificada, variando de baixa a alta, apontando para a relação direta e favorável entre as habilidades de vocabulário receptivo, consciência sintática e escrita de palavras isoladas.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to verify the correlation between receptive vocabulary, syntactic awareness, and single-word orthographic writing tests. Methods: a total of 42 third graders from elementary public schools, of both genders, aged 8 to 9 years, participated in this study. To obtain the data, the vocabulary test through images, syntactic awareness test, word dictation test, and writing under dictation test were used. For normality distribution, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was used; in the relationship between the variables, the Spearman correlation test and the R2 value test were used (p-value ≤ 0.05). Results: there was a statistically significant difference, with a moderate positive correlation between receptive vocabulary, syntactic awareness, and word dictation (values near 0.40 to 0.50); moderate-to-high, between grammatical judgment, word dictation, and writing under dictation (values near 0.50 to 0.75); low-to-moderate, between word dictation and grammatical correction, grammatical and ungrammatical correction, and word categorization (values near 0.25 to 0.50); and moderate-to-high, between word dictation and writing under dictation (values near 0.50 to 0.75). Conclusion: a positive correlation was identified, ranging from low to high, pointing to the direct and favorable relationship between receptive vocabulary skills, syntactic awareness, and single-word writing.

Abstract Human envenomation by the snakes Colubridae and Dipsadidae are reported in Brazil, and envenomation by the Opisthoglyphous snake Philodryas olfersii could be dangerous. Here, we present the second record of an envenomation by Philodryas olfersii in Pernambuco, northeast Brazil. The male victim presented with mild erythema pain, paraesthesia, local numbness, and swollen lymph nodes. The symptoms were similar to those of a pit viper bite, and disappeared completely after 15 days.

Resumo Introdução A raiva é uma infecção zoonótica transmitida pela inoculação do vírus através da saliva e secreções de animais infectados. O trabalho avaliou o perfil dos agravos e a conduta do atendimento antirrábico humano pós-exposição, entre 2006 e 2013, em Cuité-PB. Método Foram avaliadas 184 fichas dos agravos incluídos no SINAN (Sistema de Informações de Agravos de Notificação). Utilizou-se o teste qui-quadrado e calcularam-se a razão de prevalência (RP) e os intervalos de confiança (IC). Resultados Na análise dos acidentes, 53,3% eram do sexo feminino e 39,1% tinham entre 20 e 59 anos. A mordedura foi a agressão mais frequente (72,3%), e as lesões graves foram 41,5% das agressões. Os cães foram responsáveis por 66,1% das agressões. Foram registradas agressões por gatos, primatas e raposas. Verificou-se associação entre a espécie agressora e o sexo dos indivíduos (p=0,019) e maior frequência de agressões por cães em homens (RP= 1,587, IC=1,039-2,422) e por gatos em mulheres (RP=1,415, IC=1,080-1,855). Observou-se associação entre agressões por cães em membros inferiores (p=0,008, RP=2,065, IC=1,138-3,749) e por gatos em mãos/pés (p=0,001, RP=2,045, IC=1,340-3,123). 59,8% das condutas foram observação+vacina e 59,2% seguiram o protocolo do Ministério da Saúde. Conclusão deve haver uma melhora na indicação dos tratamentos e no registro dos agravos.

Abstract Introduction Rabies is a zoonotic infection transmitted by virus inoculation through saliva and secretions of infected animals. The study evaluated the conduct of the post-exposure care of human rabies, between 2006 and 2013 in Cuité-Paraíba. Method: We evaluated 184 records included in the SINAN (Sistema de Informações de Agravos de Notificação). We used the chi-square test and calculated the prevalence ratio (PR) and confidence intervals (CI). Results Analysis show that 53.3% of the accidents happened with females, and 39.1% were between 20 and 59 years old. Bite was the most common assault (72.3%) and 41.5% of the aggressions resulted in severe lesions. Dogs were responsible for 66.1% of the aggressions. Attacks were also committed by cats, primates and foxes. There was association between the aggressor species and sex of individuals (p=0.019). We observed a higher frequency of aggressions by dogs in men (PR=1.587, CI=1.039-2.422) and by cats in women (PR=1.415, CI = 1.080 to 1.855). There was an association between aggression by dogs in the lower limbs (p=0.008, PR=2.065, CI=1.138-3.749) and by cats on hand/foot (p=0.001, PR=2.045, CI=1.340-3.123). Most of the care (59.8%) consisted of observation + vaccine and 59.2% followed the Ministry of Health protocol. Conclusion It is essential to improve methods for prescribing and recording of injuries treatment.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: The sand fly, Lutzomyia longipalpis, is the main vector of Leishmania infantum in the Americas, primarily occurring in areas of apparent anthropomorphic modifications in several regions of Brazil. METHODS Sand flies were captured using light traps. RESULTS Out of all captured species, Lu. longipalpis numbers had increased within the park. CONCLUSIONS We report the occurrence of Lu. longipalpis in an area of Atlantic Forest, possibly representing the first sylvatic population of Lu. longipalpis in an area absent of peridomestic captures, but with the risk of L. infantum transmission in the areas of Niterói and Maricá.

Resumo Cada vez mais, o ensino baseado em textos ganha espaço nas salas de aula de línguas e nos livros didáticos. A teoria dos gêneros do discurso, advinda do Círculo de Bakhtin, tem fundamentado diversas análises e é o ponto de partida das teorias de gêneros discursivos e/ou textuais. Essa teoria é centrada no estudo das materialidades discursivas em seus aspectos sócio-históricos e ideológicos, considerando também as condições de produção e as situações de comunicação dos discursos. Diante de tais considerações, os objetivos deste trabalho são: verificar a concepção de gêneros em um livro didático de alemão como língua estrangeira para iniciantes Planet A1 e investigar o modo como as atividades com os gêneros são abordadas nesse material. A análise apresentada neste artigo é qualitativa e não há qualquer quantificação dos gêneros abordados no livro didático. Para tanto, foram escolhidas três propostas de atividades baseadas em três gêneros, entre os mais recorrentes do livro didático: uma conversa telefônica, e-mails e um gráfico. Os resultados das análises demonstram que o livro didático visa abordar a heterogeneidade textual, mas raramente apresenta características relacionadas às condições de produção e à situação de comunicação em que os discursos se instauram.

Abstract Teaching based on texts and textual diversity has been receiving increasing space in classrooms and textbooks. The Bakhtin Circle Theory of speech genres has founded several theories of analysis and it is the starting point of the theories of textual/discourse genres. This theory focuses on the study of discursive materiality in their socio-historical and ideological aspects, also considering the conditions of production and communicative situations. Given these considerations, the aims of this work are to verify the conception of genres in a book of German as a foreign language for beginners: Planet A1 and investigate how the activities are addressed in this material. The analysis is qualitative and there is no quantification of genres covered in the textbook. Therefore, three activities were chosen based on three genres, among the most current in the textbook: a telephone conversation, e-mails and a chart. The results show that the textbook aims to address the textual heterogeneity, but it rarely has characteristics related to the conditions of production and the communicative situation.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of A. muricata on biodistribution of two radiopharmaceuticals: sodium phytate and dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), both labeled with 99mtechnetium.METHODS: Twenty four Wistar rats were divided into two treated groups and two controls groups. The controls received water and the treated received 25mg/kg/day of A. muricata by gavage for ten days. One hour after the last dose, the first treated group received 99mTc-DMSA and the second sodium 99mTc-phytate (0.66MBq each group), both via orbital plexus. Controls followed the same protocol. Forty min later, all groups were sacrificed and the blood, kidney and bladder were isolated from the first treated group and the blood, spleen and liver isolated from the second treated group. The percentage of radioactivity per gram of tissue (%ATI/g) was calculated using a gamma counter.RESULTS: The statistical analysis showed that there was a statistically significant decrease (p<0.05) in the uptake of %ATI/g in bladder (0.11±0.01and1.60±0.08), kidney (3.52±0.51and11.84±1.57) and blood (0.15±0.01and 0.54±0.05) between the treated group and control group, respectively.CONCLUSION: The A. muricata hydroalcoholic extract negatively influenced the uptake of 99mTc-DMSA in bladder, kidney and blood of rats.
